Overnight bridge closure, Dons Fan Bridge on SH7: Dons Fan Bridge approximately 8 km’s west of the Hanmer turnoff on SH7

What: Temporary repairs to Dons Fan Bridge on SH7

Where: Dons Fan Bridge approximately 8km’s west of the Hanmer turnoff on SH7

When: Saturday 15 July from 9pm to 6am. Contingency night - Sunday 16 July

What we are doing

We are doing temporary strengthening work to Dons Fan Bridge to ensure it is capable of carrying heavy traffic through the winter until permanent repairs are done in the summer.

The timber deck under the seal is cracked and additional support is required. The work involves cutting out sections of the road surface to expose the deck and installing wooden running planks in the opposite direction to the deck. Once installed, we will reinstate the road surface with premade chip seal patches.

The work is expected to take one night, subject to favourable weather and onsite conditions. The contingency night is Sunday 16 July.

Traffic impacts

The bridge will be closed to do the work. We will open the bridge using stop/go traffic control on the hour every hour to clear traffic. In an emergency, we will open the bridge to emergency services .
