Cycling in Christchurch

Christchurch City Council is developing initiatives to encourage a cycling culture in Christchurch.

We have the unique opportunity to develop an extensive, safe and well connected cycleway network, alongside programmes to encourage a cycling culture amongst Cantabrians.

Cycling is one way we can reduce congestion and save money whilst keeping fit and healthy.

If you're not already aware, in New Zealand you are required to:

  • Wear a helmet
  • Have working brakes and reflectors on your bike
  • Have a white light at the front and a red light at the back of your bike if you’re riding in low light
