Night Works: Road Work

SH1 Timaru; Evans St, Theodosia St and King St - traffic delays overnight

What: Night works: removing old surface and laying new asphalt

Where: SH1 Timaru - various locations

When: 7:00pm - 6:00am

We’d like to advise motorists that we are starting work on multiple sections of asphalt surfacing replacement along SH1 in Timaru.

The work is being done at night to minimise disruption as we will need to reduce the road width to one lane of traffic each way at times.

Traffic management on SH1 will consist of stages of two-lane diversion and single lane Stop/Go. The physical work will start at 8 pm but the traffic management will be set up earlier at 7 pm.

Two lanes will be open by 7 am each morning but there may still be congestion caused by temporary speed restrictions, uneven surfaces, and reduced lane widths.

Access for residents and local businesses will be available at all times but there will be disruption at intersections and on-street parking will be closed while we are working in the area.

Additionally, upgrade works are being carried out during the daytime by Timaru District Council and others.

Road users should expect delays in this area next week, or avoid the worksite if they can.
