To make life a little easier, consider these travel tips.

  • To avoid delays, consider travel to shopping malls before 2:30 pm or after 6:00 pm
  • With extra traffic on the roads, remember to be patient and take care this holiday season.
  • Take advantage of our congestion map on our website here to see where the traffic hotspots are and avoid unnecessary delays.

Heading to Northlands, the Palms, Riccarton Mall or Eastgate Mall?

The peak travel period is between 2:30 pm & 6 pm. If you plan ahead you may want to consider travelling outside of these times, you can take advantage of longer shop opening hours or shop before picking the kids up from school. By doing this, you can avoid the peak travel period and have a more relaxed shopping experience.

Shopping in the CBD

Use the one-way streets for an easy drive into town. Look for the parking signs to access the parking buildings.

Currently, Christchurch City Council is offering one-hour free parking at Council-owned car park buildings for shoppers wanting to take advantage of the stores in the city centre. This offer has been extended until the end of January 2019.

  • Christchurch Art Gallery car park
  • Lichfield St car park

The following CBD carparks are also operating:

  • Hereford St car park building
  • SALT District car park building
  • The Crossing car park building
  • West End car park building
