Sparks - Saturday, 22 January 2022

The Sparks classical music extravaganza is back.

This event with popular conductor David Kay is making a return appearance with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. To finish, the night will end with a dazzling fireworks display.  This year's theme is 'travelling through the ages'.

We encourage you to plan a picnic, grab a rug and come with your friends and whānau to enjoy traditional classics, modern-day favourites and a few surprises in between.

No picnic, no problem! A large variety of food and drink providers will be able onsite for you to enjoy.

A shuttle service will run every 15 minutes between 4 and 6.30 pm, leaving from the Bus Exchange (Lichfield Street side) and dropping people off outside Christ's College (Rolleston Avenue).

This is a popular event every year, so make sure you plan how to get to and from the North Hagley Park venue. Parking will be limited in the CBD and is likely to fill up fast.  So consider a few of the alternatives below.

Vaccine certificates are required to attend this event for anyone aged over 12 years and three months.

Bag checks will also be carried out to stop any glass from entering the site.

Check all information below here:

Bike stands will be provided in Hagley Park opposite the roundabout over the Armagh Street Bridge.

There are thousands of car parks available in the central city, which you can find using our interactive map.

To access one of five multi-level parking buildings, drive-in using the one-way streets and look out for the blue ‘P’ parking signs.

If you want to drop people off at the park, there will be a drop-off point on Park Terrace between Kilmore and Armagh Street (outside Cathedral Grammar).

The Riccarton Ave car park will be accessible before 3:30 pm and will be exit only after this time.

The Botanic Gardens Armagh Street car park will be closed to incoming traffic from 3 pm and closed to all traffic from 5 pm. So if you head there for the Noodle Markets, make sure you move your car before 5 pm.

Mobility parking
Mobility parking will be on Chester Street West (off Park Terrace). A mobility pass must be visible to gain access.
