Over the coming months, the Takaka Hill road will be reduced to a single lane to allow for safe worksites through the next phase of the project. With most of the steel barriers now installed, earthworks to prepare the slip sites for the new retaining walls is underway.
A shuttle has been organised to take all cyclists and their bikes over the hill safely while construction is underway. The shuttle runs from 7 am to 7 pm, seven days a week.
Cyclists should call 0800 909 696 when they arrive at either end of the lights to be picked up. The phone number is displayed at each set of traffic lights.
There are no restrictions on the types of vehicles using the hill.
Drivers, motorcycle riders and cyclists are not able to stop between or within areas of the traffic signals or when there is manual traffic management.
Drivers are not able to overtake in these narrow areas for everyone’s safety.
We recommend turning vehicle lights off while waiting at either end of the queue point to avoid a flat battery.
