Traffic is flowing again on the Rakaia River Bridge after a broken-down vehicle was shifted off the bridge.

While congestion has eased, people are still asked to travel with care on the bridge and State Highway 1 in the area.    

5.15pm – Breakdown on bridge impacting traffic:

Road users are being warned about potential delays crossing the Rakaia River after reports of a vehicle breakdown on the southbound lane of the bridge.

Contractors for New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi have been called to assist.
