The next step in the construction of the State Highway 2 Hawke’s Bay Expressway Road of National significance project is lifting into place the final overbridge beams.

That will require some further traffic management in the coming weeks.

Upcoming traffic management

  • From Sunday 1 November till Tuesday 3 November. The Meeanee Road overbridge will be closed between 8pm and 5am each night. A stretch of Meeanee Road under the bridge will also close during the beam lifts.

The contingency date for this work is Wednesday 4 November.

During this time, north and southbound traffic will be detoured onto the on- and off-ramps, while traffic travelling under the bridge will be detoured either to the Pākōwhai/Links Road roundabout or the Taradale Road roundabout depending on their direction of travel.

  • From Wednesday 4 November till Friday 6 November. The Kennedy Road overbridge will be under stop/go traffic management between 7pm and 5am each night. A stretch of Kennedy Road under the bridge will be closed during the beam lifts.

The contingency date for this work is Monday 9 November.

During this time, local Kennedy Road traffic will be detoured via Konini Crescent or Trinity Crescent (depending on direction of travel) and onto SH51/Taradale Road.

During this overnight work, crews at both Meeanee Road and Kennedy Road overbridges will be lifting concrete beams into place, paving the way for the next phase of the new overbridges.

This will see the bridge decks installed at a later date.

Roadwork up ahead

Further overnight closures are planned at the end of November/early December between Meeanee Road and Taradale Road as crews work towards completing more sections of the new alignment.

Further details of these closures will be finalised next week.
