State Highway 3 through Awakino Gorge is on track to reopen at 6pm today (Tuesday) following a four day closure.

Crews have now installed four culverts and are now asphalting the road at the major slip site, signalling the end to this work.

This stretch of SH3 will reopen under the same one lane stop/go traffic management that was in place before the closure.

People travelling through the gorge should continue to plan ahead, allow extra time and expect delays. The site remains an active and challenging recovery area, and access may still need to change at short notice if monitoring, weather, geotechnical risk or site safety requires it.
