Ashley River Bridge/Rakahuri, on State Highway 1/Main North Road in North Canterbury, will close tomorrow night so that road sealing work can be carried out.

The bridge, near Waikuku, is scheduled to be closed to traffic from 9pm tomorrow (Wednesday 25 February) through to 6am on Thursday 26 February.

A detour will be in place during this closure. Northbound traffic can turn left onto Rangiora Woodend Road, right onto Golf Links Road, left onto Coldstream Road and right onto Inland Scenic Route 72, before rejoining SH1/Main North Road. Southbound traffic should turn right onto Harleston Road, left onto Inland Scenic Route 72, left onto Coldstream Road, right onto Golf Links Road and left onto Rangiora Woodend Road, before rejoining SH1/Main North Road.

Road users should plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for their travel.

In addition to tomorrow night’s scheduled closure, people should be aware of other nearby roadworks tonight which may mean short delays on SH1/Main North Road. A 30km/h speed limit will be in place and road users be asked to stop on demand at Waikuku on SH1/Main North Road, near the intersection with Tulls Road, from 6pm tonight through to 6am tomorrow. This resurfacing work is weather dependent and may be postponed at short notice.
