Chipsealing and Stormwater Maintenance on SH16 and SH2

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 21 Nov 2025 1:31pm | Auckland

Night-time maintenance works are coming up on State Highway 16 (SH16) Twin Coast Discovery Highway and State Highway 2 (SH2) between Pōkeno and the State Highway 25 (SH25) roundabout before the Christmas holidays.

Contractors for NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) will be working at multiple locations to carry out chipsealing and stormwater maintenance between Sunday 23 November and Wednesday 17 December (Sundays to Thursdays between 9pm and 5am).

While the team is working, there will be lane restrictions and stop/go traffic management in place to assist vehicles. Please allow extra time for your journey and follow all traffic management instructions.

Nearby properties may experience increased noise levels from equipment and vehicles.

Chipsealing aftercare

During the day, all lanes will be open but there will be speed restrictions to allow the chipseal to bed in, and to protect vehicles travelling over newly laid chipseal.

Please watch this video which explains how to drive over newly laid chipseal, and why it’s important to follow traffic management instructions.
