Update: Rakaia Bridge on SH1 reopened

8.20am – Rakaia Bridge on SH1 reopened

Rakaia Bridge on State Highway 1 has reopened after a crash this morning.

People are asked to take care travelling on the bridge and in the wider area, and to be aware of the impact of delays further south on SH1, near Ashburton, where a road rebuild is underway from today. A single lane is operating south of Tinwald and road users are required to stop on demand.


7.30am – Crash closes Rakaia Bridge on SH1

The Rakaia Bridge on State Highway 1 is closed this morning after a serious crash.

Traffic is backed up following the incident that is being attended by emergency services. People are asked to avoid the area, delay their journeys and to expect delays. State Highways 73 and 77 are available as an alternative route.
