The crash site has been cleared, and State Highway 2 is now open to southbound traffic

State Highway 2 remains closed to southbound traffic between Petone and Ngauranga following a serious crash earlier this evening.

The highway is closed to southbound traffic from Dowse Drive interchange to the Ngauranga southbound offramp. There is also a northbound lane closure in place near the crash site.

Emergency services are at the scene, including the Police Serious Crash Unit.

Significant delays and disruption can be expected on the highway until the crash has been investigated and the incident has been resolved. There is no estimated time for the highway to reopen to southbound traffic.

Drivers heading from the Hutt Valley to Wellington must avoid the area and use an alternative route.

Drivers heading from the Hutt Valley to Wellington are warned to expect congestion and delays following a crash on State Highway 2 this evening.

The incident was reported shortly before 6:30 this evening. The highway is closed to southbound traffic between Petone and Ngauranga.

Police have confirmed the incident involves a car and a pedestrian. Emergency services are attending the incident. 

Significant delays and traffic congestion can be expected until the incident is resolved, and highway lanes are reopened.

Drivers are asked to follow all instructions from emergency services, delay their travel, and avoid the area.
