Drivers heading into Wellington on State Highway 1 are warned to expect detours and delays following a crash this evening.
The incident was reported around 8:15 pm. State Highway 1 is closed to southbound traffic between Mungavin interchange and Tawa interchange but remains open to northbound traffic.
Emergency services are at the scene. Drivers are asked to delay travel, avoid the area, or use an alternative route.
Local road detours are available via Kenepuru Drive, Main Road, and Takapu Road, or via State Highway 58 and State Highway 2 Hutt Valley. These will require extra travel time and drivers should plan accordingly.
This section of State Highway 1 is expected to remain closed until a crash investigation is complete and the incident site is cleared.
Updates on the highway’s status are available online and drivers are urged to check road conditions before they travel.
