UPDATE: 12.35pm – SH7 reopened after serious crash

State Highway 7/Karaka Road has reopened between Waikari and Hurunui, in North Canterbury, after a serious crash this morning. The road has been cleared after the completion of police investigations at the crash site, but road users are still asked to travel with care on this stretch of road.
8.15am – Detour for serious crash on SH7
A detour is available for road users after a serious crash has closed State Highway 7 in North Canterbury this morning.
SH7/Karaka Road, near Waikari, is closed between Princes Street and Hawarden Hurunui Road after the crash involving a single vehicle. Police say initial inquiries indicate that has been serious injuries.
Northbound traffic is advised to turn left onto Princes Street and continue onto Hawarden Waikari Road, continue onto Ocarrolls Road, then turn right onto High Street and continue onto Hawarden Hurunui Road, and then turn left back onto SH7. The reverse applies for southbound traffic.
People are asked to take care travelling through the area, and this detour is suitable for all vehicles.
