A detour is in place after a serious crash closed State Highway 6 between Crown Range Road and Pearson Road in Central Otago.

Emergency services are at the site of the two-vehicle crash in the Kawarau Gorge, and the closure may last several hours.

The available detour is via Crown Range Road and Cardrona Valley Road but is not suitable for vehicles longer than 12.5m.
