Drainage improvements coming for State Highway 2 Masterton - Solway

Extra investment is planned in April for improvements to State Highway 2 in Masterton.

Starting on Monday, 20 April and continuing until the end of June, contractors will reconstruct the kerb and channel on State Highway 2/High Street Solway, between Bledisloe/Derby Streets and Intermediate/Short Streets.

These will be daytime works, with contractors on site 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday. State Highway 2 will remain open to traffic in both directions under a 30 km/h temporary speed limit, and parking restrictions will apply as the project progresses.

This section of the highway has been affected by water, and the kerb and channel reconstruction will improve drainage and help better protect the road.

When drainage is poor, water can seep into the pavement and under the road, creating damage and potholes. Improving the drains will help keep water away from the highway and significantly reduce the risk of this happening.

Work plan:

The work will be done in six sections, with each section expected to take two to three weeks to complete.

Contractors will excavate the old kerb and channel, then prepare and build new replacements.

Impact:

Because a 30 km/h temporary speed limit will be in place, drivers can expect short delays when driving through the project site. There will be no parking available in areas where kerbs are being removed and replaced.

Because the project requires heavy machinery, some noise and dust can be expected. Day works have been chosen because doing the work at night would cause noise disruption for residents.

Bus stops will be relocated with Metlink to confirm these details.

This project is weather-dependent, and schedules may change if bad weather occurs.
