Two crashes on State Highway 3 north of New Plymouth this morning are causing delays to traffic.

SH3 at Mahoenui, south of Papakauri Road, is currently under stop/go traffic management following a serious crash just before 11.

A truck and trailer unit is partially blocking the road and emergency services are on site.

Further south, SH3 at Awakino near the Gribbin Road intersection is currently under stop/go traffic management following an earlier truck and trailer crash.

This stretch of road is likely to be temporarily closed while a crane lifts the truck off the side of the road.

Safety on the roads

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is reminding Taranaki motorists to drive to the conditions as wind conditions pick up.

A strong wind watch will be in force for a 24 hour period from 6pm today.

Please take care, especially on motorbikes or in high-sided vehicles. Drive to the conditions and if you feel uncomfortable driving in the wind, please take a break or consider delaying your journey.
