State Highway 2 in Upper Hutt is scheduled to have a northbound closure tonight (Thursday, 21 August).

This closure is necessary to allow urgent interim repairs to a section of the highway between Gibbons Street and Totara Park Road.

The highway will be closed to northbound traffic between Gibbons Street and Totara Park Road, from 9 pm until 4.30 am tonight. Southbound lanes will remain open.

NZTA Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance apologise for the short notice of these repairs. However, the road surface has deteriorated during recent bad weather and must be repaired and levelled. This is critical for ensuring the road is safe for traffic.

Local road detours will be available through Upper Hutt, and drivers should allow extra travel time while these roadworks are completed. 

Further work will be carried out at this location during the upcoming state highway summer maintenance season when the weather is warmer and will allow more durable repairs to be completed.
