Emergency works on SH1C Greenwood Street, Hamilton

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 9 Oct 2026 4:13pm | Waikato

Motorists are advised to expect delays on SH1C Greenwood Street, Hamilton, from 9am on Monday 12 October, the first day back after school holidays.

Emergency repairs are required to address a tomo (road depression) that has developed near a stormwater manhole.

To enable the repairs to be completed safely, one lane will be closed on the four-lane section of Greenwood Street, with traffic management in place and reduced speed limits.

NZTA Asset and Operations Area Manager, Andy Oakley, says the repairs need to be carried out quickly to ensure the safety and integrity of the road.

“Following investigations, a tomo was identified beside a stormwater manhole on Greenwood Street. This work is required as soon as possible to repair the affected area and prevent any further deterioration.

“We appreciate this will add to congestion during the Monday morning’s commute. If you can avoid the Greenwood Street area or consider an alternative route, please do so. If you need to travel through the area, allow extra time for your journey and expect delays.”

NZTA thanks road users for their patience while this emergency work is completed. Further updates will be provided if required.
