Extra travel time needed for SH1 work in Temuka

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 4 Nov 2026 12:14pm | Canterbury

Resurfacing of a section of State Highway 1 in Temuka from this weekend will mean delays at night for traffic through the South Canterbury town.

Scheduled from Sunday 8 November to Monday 16 November 2026, the work means that road users on SH1 (Vine and King Streets), between Wilmshurst Road and Wood Street, will need to stop on demand nightly during the hours of 6pm to 7.30am (excluding Friday and Saturday nights, 13-14 November). People should expect delays of up to 15 minutes while the traffic is managed through a single lane.

The work will mean a smoother, more resilient road surface for all who travel on it.

In addition, during these evening work hours, no access will be available to or from Redwood Street, King Street (south) or Dyson Street.

The SH1 work described above is weather dependent and may be postponed at short notice. NZTA thanks people for their patience while this work is carried out.
