Taurangakoau Bridge on State Highway 35 will be under stop/go traffic management later this month (from Monday 31 August) while recovery work is carried out.

The bridge, over the Mangaowira Stream north of Te Araroa, was severely damaged in January’s storm, which also caused the Punaruku slip further north.

Crews repaired the bridge within a few days shortly after the storm.

From late this month, crews will return to site to replace the guardrails at the southern end of the bridge, completing the last part of the repair programme. The work is expected to take up to 2 weeks, weather permitting.

To keep everyone safe while work is underway, traffic will be managed under single-lane stop/go traffic management during daylight hours.

Motorists travelling through the area should allow for short delays of up to 5 minutes.
