Full closure planned for State Highway 2 Masterton to Carterton – nightworks
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 21 Oct 2025 4:39pm | Wellington
Urgent maintenance is to be completed on State Highway 2 between Masterton and Carterton tomorrow (Wednesday, 22 October).
Road crews will remove fallen trees brought down by today’s weather, repair three median barrier strikes on the route, and replace a power pole.
These repairs to the median barriers are critically important and essential for reducing the risk of serious crashes on the route.
State Highway 2 will be closed to all northbound traffic between Hughes Line and Cornwall Road between 10 am and 1 pm tomorrow to allow fallen trees to be removed.
State Highway 2 will also be closed to all traffic between Hughes Line and Cornwall Road between 9 pm and 4 am for median barrier repairs and the power pole replacement.
Due to the machinery used and the limited space available, the highway must be closed in both directions to allow contractors to complete the necessary repairs safely and efficiently.
A local road detour will be available via Hughes Line and Cornwall Road. This will add to travel times, so drivers should plan their journeys accordingly.
The barrier repairs have been timed to be done at night to coincide with lower traffic volumes. This helps minimise disruptions and delays for road users.
Works schedule and detour map
