Full night closure for gantry installation – SH1 northbound, Mackays Commercial Vehicle Safety Centre

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 15 Apr 2026 3:36pm | Wellington

A full night closure of State Highway 1 northbound is planned at Transmission Gully as part of ongoing construction of the Mackays Commercial Vehicle Safety Centre (CVSC).

On Monday, 20 April (9 pm – 4:30 am), contractors will install a gantry that will provide electronic messaging for heavy vehicle compliance and safety operations once the CVSC is operational.

While this is underway, the northbound lanes through State Highway 1 Transmission Gully will have to be closed to traffic to allow the gantry to be safely lifted into place.

The work has been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption when traffic volumes are lower. Some delays should still be expected while traffic is diverted.

All work is weather dependent and cannot take place in unsuitable conditions, such as high winds. If required, the work may be rescheduled.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, follow temporary traffic management, and allow extra time for their journeys.
