Heavy rain affecting Wellington highways

Wellington drivers are urged to drive to the conditions and take extra care this evening with heavy rain creating challenging driving conditions in and out of the city.
Surface flooding is affecting the network at multiple locations – including State Highway 1 near the Basin Reserve, State Highway 1 southbound near the Johnsonville offramp, and State Highway 2 near Maungaraki.
Contractors are on the network and responding to incidents as they arise. Motorists should follow any temporary traffic management in place at sites where they are working.
Drivers can expect wet weather driving conditions and should drive accordingly. This means reducing speed, increasing following distances, and avoiding sudden braking.
Travel delays and disruptions are possible, and drivers should check road conditions before they travel.
