2.40pm – Crashes impacting state highway travel
A temporary reduced speed limit is in place on State Highway 8/Twizel-Omarama Road in the Mackenzie Basin following a crash earlier this afternoon.
Police say the two-vehicle crash occurred about 12.30pm, near the Ohau B Canal Bridge, and a truck involved is now largely blocking the road. There appeared to be no injuries.
Vehicles are being required to travel at 30km/h when using the road shoulders to navigate around the crashed truck. People are asked to travel with extra care through this site until the truck can be shifted and the road cleared.
Meanwhile, in Southland, State Highway 93/Old Coach Road remains closed from Mataura to Clinton after a serious crash this morning. Road users are encouraged to detour via State Highway 1.
Police say they were alerted to the crash about 7.55am and initial indications were that one person sustained critical injuries. The road is expected to remain closed while police complete their crash investigations.
