Lower Buller Gorge/SH6 closure for culvert replacement
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 6 Oct 2025 9:30am | West Coast
Closures planned over two days for Lower Buller Gorge/State Highway 6 next week will allow contractors to safely carry out a culvert replacement.
The closure from Inangahua Junction (SH6/SH69 junction) to 4 Mile Junction (SH6/SH67 junction) on SH6 will be in effect from 8am to 3pm on Tuesday 14 October. This stretch of road will also close on Wednesday 15 October, from 8am to 4pm, but on this day it will open on the hour, every hour, for traffic to pass through.
An alternative route is available via State Highways 69 and 7 to Greymouth, and via SH6 to Westport (the reverse applies for eastbound traffic).
If poor weather is forecast, the work will be postponed to 21-22 October, and an update will be provided. The latest road status is also available on our Journey Planner site.
We thank residents and road users in advance for their patience as this necessary work is carried out.
