New approach for roadworks updates
NZTA/Waka Kotahi is introducing a new way of providing information on upcoming roadworks. Regional updates are being provided regularly via e-newsletters and email.

This means the approach used previously for the Lower North Island and Top of the South will change. Links to the latest e-newsletter will continue be provided over the next few weeks, but it is recommended people sign up to ensure they continue to receive the information they need.
Important information for drivers
Lower North Island
- If you are interested in knowing where Wellington’s roadworks will be over the summer maintenance season, details are now available.
- The Mount Victoria Tunnel will be closed on Monday and Tuesday nights between 9 pm and 4 am for work on its fire suppression and safety systems. Drivers travelling between the Wellington CBD and the Miramar Peninsula will need to take alternative local road routes and should allow extra time for their journeys.
- Road rebuild and drainage works at Ōhau start next Tuesday.
- Drivers can also expect to see improvements to the double roundabouts at the Transmission Gully interchange from next week
- In the Hutt Valley, work on the State Highway 2/Moonshine Hill Road intersection improvement project is underway, night closures are planned for State Highway 2 Upper Hutt, and a Wellington Water project continues near Silverstream
Top of the South Island
- In Nelson/Tasman, there will be three weeks of daytime closures on State Highway 6 Spooners Saddle to allow forestry storm recovery work starting from Monday. Slip repairs will continue at State Highway 6 Dellows Bluff, resilience works will resume on State Highway 6 Whangamoa Hill, and resurfacing work is planned for State Highway 60 in Motueka.
- In Marlborough, road resurfacing will be underway on State Highway 1 south of Picton from 29 September
