More wind in store tomorrow – take care on Auckland Harbour Bridge

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 23 Jan 2026 3:29pm | Auckland

Strong winds on the Auckland Harbour Bridge are expected tomorrow (Saturday 24 January) which may impact travel on the bridge.

For most of the day (9am to 5pm), high wind gusts of 75-85 km/h are forecast, with potential for gusts to reach 90-100km/h.

The moveable lane barrier will be operated as normal during this evening’s peak.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and pay attention to electronic message boards on the motorway, which will advise if any lane closures and reduced speed limits are required.

If there is potential for sudden and high wind gusts on the bridge, lowering the speed limit gives motorists time to react and take more care.
