Wellington drivers are warned of an unplanned closure of the Mount Victoria Tunnel tonight (30 June).

The tunnel will be closed from 10 pm and will reopen in time for early morning traffic.

The closure is needed so that contractors can carry out repairs to the tunnel’s fire suppression systems. This is essential work and necessary to ensure the tunnel is kept safe for the public.

While the tunnel is closed, traffic traveling between the Wellington CBD and Miramar will have to use local road detours via Adelaide Road, Riddiford Street, Constable Street and Wellington Road.

This is a longer route and will require extra travel time. Drivers should plan accordingly.
