Due to wet weather on Wednesday 28 January, the works on SH1 Mountain Road did not go ahead and will now take place overnight on Wednesday 11 February between 9pm and 5am. 

A contingency shift has been scheduled for Thursday 12 February 2026.

The State Highway 1 (SH1) Mountain Road overbridge will be closed overnight between Seccombes Road and Auckland Grammar School (55 Mountain Rd) on Wednesday 28 January for the replacement of a bridge joint on the overbridge.

While the team are working between 9pm and 5am there will be a full closure in both directions on the overbridge and the following detours will be in place:

• For traffic travelling away from Khyber Pass Road, please detour via Khyber Pass Road, Crowhurst Street, Gillies Ave, Owens Road and Mountain Road.
• For traffic travelling towards Khyber Pass Road, please detour via Mountain Road, Owens Road, Gillies Ave, Crowhurst Street and Khyber Pass Road.

The detours will add approximately 10 minutes to journeys.

Vehicles travelling under the bridge on SH1 will not be affected.

Nearby properties will experience increased noise levels as the team will need to cut into the road surface, remove and replace the bridge joint and reinstate the road surface.

This work is weather dependent and may change from advertised dates. Contingency shifts have been scheduled for Thursday 29 January 2026
