NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 13 Oct 2026 9:06am | Hawke’s Bay
A series of overnight closures is planned on State Highway 2 between Meeanee Road and Taradale Road to support the next stage of the Hawke’s Bay Expressway Roads of National Significance project.
Upcoming closure
Sunday 18 to Wednesday 21 October from 8pm till 5am. During this work, the expressway will be closed overnight between Meeanee Road and Taradale Road. The road will reopen by 5am each morning.
A sign posted detour will be available and is suitable for all traffic. Northbound vehicles will be detoured onto Meeanee Road and Awatoto Road, left onto SH51, left onto SH51 Ellison Steet, Georges Drive, left onto Hyderabad and onto Prebensen Drive, before rejoining the expressway.
During the closure, crews will be carrying out drainage, utilities, and landscaping work, replacing barriers between Taradale Road and Kennedy Road and general maintenance. This is in advance of switching northbound traffic onto the newly built road between Taradale Road and Kennedy Road to allow crews to complete the work on the new section of road.
Please plan ahead for the detour, which is likely to add between 5 and 10 minutes to your journey.
School holiday closure
The Meanee Road northbound offramp has reopened after being closed for a fortnight while crews widened the road to accommodate extra lanes.
