Project works for the Melling Transport Improvements project will see a night closure on State Highway 2 this weekend.

The highway will be closed to southbound traffic between Melling Link and the Dowse interchange on Sunday night from 9 pm to 4:30 am.

Access to Harbour View Road and Melling Bridge will remain available at all times. However, southbound traffic heading towards Wellington will need to use local road detours through Lower Hutt. 

The highway will remain open to northbound traffic.

This will require extra travel time. Drivers must observe all local road speed limits and allow extra time for their journeys.

The closure is required for ongoing project works for the new Melling Interchange works. Contractors will conduct site inspections and assess the highway for placing new safety barriers. 

These will be required when the project’s footprint begins to affect the state highway corridor when the construction of the interchange moves to its next phase.
