Night works planned next week for State Highway 59 Mungavin Avenue on and offramps

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 7 Nov 2025 10:42am | Wellington

Regular users of State Highway 59 in Porirua need to be ready for upcoming night closures of the Mungavin Avenue southbound and northbound on-ramps.

The closures will happen next Wednesday and Thursday nights (12 & 13 November), between 9 pm and 4:30 am. The southbound on-ramp will be closed on Wednesday night and the northbound on Thursday night.

These closures are required for essential pavement repairs. Both on-ramps are well-used, and regular maintenance is essential.

The work is scheduled to be done at night to minimise disruption to the public. However, drivers should expect longer travel times due to detours needed to access State Highway 1

Detour advice for drivers

The southbound on-ramp paving repairs will affect southbound drivers leaving Cannons Creek heading for Linden and State Highway 1.

They will need to detour via Titahi Bay Road, Kenepuru Drive, Kenepuru Link Road, and then enter State Highway 1. Please allow for extra time for your journeys.

Drivers will also need to detour during the northbound on-ramp closure. Northbound traffic wanting to enter State Highway 1 at Mungavin Ave will need to detour north via Walton Leigh Ave, Lyttelton Ave and The Ramp to enter the Highway.

Metlink Porirua Station users

The northbound on-ramp closure will also affect users of Metlink's Porirua train station car park.

From 9 pm, drivers will not be able to enter or exit the station car park via the northbound on-ramp. Instead, drivers must exit the car park via the southern exit onto the northbound off-ramp and follow the above detours. The train station will remain open as usual.
