Nighttime offramp closure planned for State Highway 1 Grenada Drive

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 6 Jan 2026 2:44pm | Wellington

People needing to access Grenada Village from State Highway 1 need to be ready to take an alternate route this coming Monday night (12 January).

Road crews will be completing repairs to the highway’s southbound lane just before the Grenada southbound on ramp from  9 pm to 4:30 am.

Because the approach to the Grenada offramp is in the work zone, the offramp has to be closed to all traffic.

This means southbound drivers (including heavy vehicles) needing to access Grenada must detour by exiting at the Tawa off-ramp, then heading to Grenada via Takapu Road, Middleton Road, and Westchester Drive (see map below).

This will require extra travel time, and drivers should plan accordingly. Traffic management will be set up from 7pm and delays can be expected while this is underway.

Road users should observe all traffic management in place and follow all instructions from road crews. They are there to keep workers and the public safe.

This work is weather-dependent and schedules may change. Road resurfacing cannot be done during wet weather. Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before they travel.

Works schedule and detour route

  • Monday 12 January. 9pm - 4:30am (traffic management set up from 7pm)
  • SH1 Grenada southbound offramp CLOSED
  • Local road detour available via SH1 Tawa offramp, Takapu Road, Middleton Road, and Westchester Drive.
