Nightworks and ramp closures planned for State Highway 1 Kāpiti Expressway
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 31 Jul 2026 9:25am | Wellington
Drivers using State Highway 1 in Kāpiti should prepare for overnight ramp closures next week while road crews carry out essential maintenance work.
The closures are planned for the Poplar Avenue southbound onramp at Raumati South on Monday, 3 August (9 pm – 4:30 am), and the Kāpiti Road southbound offramp at Paraparaumu on Thursday, 6 August (8 pm – 4:30 am).
Crews will resurface sections of the ramps where the pavement is showing signs of wear. The new surface will improve road grip and skid resistance, making the ramps safer for road users.
The maintenance work and associated ramp closures are deliberately scheduled overnight when traffic volumes are lower. This helps minimise disruption for road users, while full closures allow crews to complete the work faster.
While the closures are in place, drivers will need to use alternative routes. The work and associated detours may add extra time to journeys, so road users should plan ahead and allow more time for travel.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance acknowledge that road and ramp closures can be inconvenient. However, regular highway maintenance is essential and helps prevent more expensive and disruptive repairs in the future.
Drivers are asked to follow all temporary traffic management and instructions from road crews to help keep everyone safe.
The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if wet weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur. Road users should check conditions before travelling.
