Nightworks next Wednesday for State Highway 6 Rocks Road
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 5 Sep 2025 10:53am | Tasman, Nelson and Marlborough
Nelson drivers need to be ready for planned nightworks on State Highway 6 Rocks Road next week.
The route will be under stop/go traffic management with a southbound lane closure and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit between Richardson Street and Magazine Point. It will be in place from 7 pm to 5 am on Wednesday, 10 September.
Because the work is happening overnight, when traffic volumes are lower, it is not expected to have a major impact on traffic. However, drivers travelling through the area can expect to experience short delays and should plan their trips accordingly.
Contractors will be carrying out inspections of the cliff face, installing geofabric to help reduce erosion risk, and installing a temporary fence and screen.
Because contractors will be working above the road, the highway’s southbound lane has to be closed to ensure public safety in case of debris falls.
Works Schedule:
- Wednesday, 10 September, 7 pm – 5 am (weather permitting)
- SH6 Rocks Road – southbound lane closure between Richardson Street and Magazine Point
- Stop/Go traffic management and 30 km/h temporary speed limit
- Short travel delays can be expected
