Nightworks planned for State Highway 6 Hope Bypass investigations
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 16 Jul 2026 2:00pm | Tasman, Nelson and Marlborough
Richmond residents and drivers are encouraged to be ready for nightworks relating to the Hope Bypass project.
Starting this Sunday (19 July), contractors will be doing stormwater and sewer investigations for the project. This will affect State Highway 6, Gladstone Road, McGlashen Avenue, Lower Queen Street, and Stratford Street.
The work will be underway Sunday to Thursday nights, between 8pm and 5:45am, from this Sunday 19 July, until Thursday 6 August.
Work crews will be surveying stormwater and sewer infrastructure as part of detailed design work for the Hope Bypass project. Locating and identifying this infrastructure is critical.
Works are planned at night when traffic volumes are lower. This will minimise disruption and no significant traffic delays are expected.
No road closures are planned, but there will be turning restrictions, lane closures, and diversions at various sites as the work progresses (see location maps below). Drivers can also expect 30 km/h temporary speed limits at survey sites.
All diversions will be signposted, and contractors will be available to help road users find alternative routes.
All businesses will remain open, and carparks will be available during business hours. Resident access will be maintained and managed by workers onsite.
Footpaths may be affected while this work is underway. Affected areas will be clearly marked.
This work is also being coordinated with the Tasman District Council. The information being gathered will support upcoming Council stormwater and wastewater works planned in the area from early August. This will help minimise overall disruption to residents, businesses, and road users.
