NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 7 Nov 2025 11:46am | Hawke’s Bay
A stretch of State Highway 2 Hawke’s Bay Expressway will be closed overnight at the end of the month (Sunday 30 November) for 1 night of routine maintenance.
The road will be closed between the Taradale Road and Pākōwhai/Links Road roundabouts from 8pm until 5am on Monday 1 December.
The Meeanee Road roundabout will remain open to minimise disruption and aid detour routes.
There are 3 detour options available:
- Detour 1: Pākōwhai Road to Te Ara Kahikatea, onto State Highway 51, to Awatoto Road then onto Meeanee Road. The reverse will apply. This detour is only available for light vehicles and up to 50MAX permitted vehicles only.
- Detour 2: Meeanee Road, Lee Road, Gloucester Street, Kennedy Road and Taradale Road. The reverse will apply. This detour is suitable to all vehicles.
- Detour 3: Pākōwhai Road to Te Ara Kahikatea, onto State Highway 51 then onto SH51 Taradale Road. The reverse will apply. This detour is only available for light vehicles and up to 50MAX permitted vehicles only.
For HPMV access: northbound vehicles to queue at the Pākōwhai/Links Road end to be let through, then use detour 2.
Southbound HPMV to use detour 2, then queue at the Meeanee Road end to be let through.
*Please note restrictions on the Redclyffe bridge at Waiohiki are 8t MAX at 30km/hr. Vehicles over 8-tonne are not allowed to use this bridge. On the Tutaekuri Bridge (Waitangi) on State Highway 51, a 50MAX permitted vehicle at 60km/hr restriction applies.

Crews will carry out routine maintenance as part of the previously signalled monthly maintenance schedule:
