Overnight maintenance work on SH1 between Gillies Ave and Khyber Pass Road

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 11 May 2026 11:30am | Auckland

From this Sunday (17 May), maintenance and upgrades on stormwater assets on State Highway 1 (SH1) between Gillies Ave and Khyber Pass Road will be carried out. Works will take place at night-time Sunday to Thursdays between 10pm and 5am and is expected to finish in July.

To keep traffic moving we will be keeping the road open, however on- and off-ramps at Khyber Pass Road and Gillies Ave will be impacted.

We will begin working with stormwater assets on the southbound lanes, which will take approximately 6 weeks. During this time, southbound lane restrictions will be in place and SH1 Khyber Pass Road southbound on-ramp and Gillies Ave southbound off-ramp will be closed. Signposted detours will be in place.

Once the southbound stormwater activities are complete, the team will move to the northbound lanes for approximately 2 weeks. There will be northbound lane restrictions and SH1 Gillies Ave northbound on-ramp and Khyber Pass Road northbound off-ramp will be closed.

The direction of lane restrictions and ramp closures may need to change at short notice. Please check the NZTA Journey Planner before you travel for real-time information.
