Drivers travelling north on State Highway 1 through Johnsonville should plan ahead for overnight resurfacing works next week.

Contractors will be repairing a section of the highway’s northbound lanes between the Johnsonville offramp and onramp. The work will improve the highway’s grip and skid resistance, making the road safer for road users

The work will be done on Wednesday 14 October, between 9pm and 4:30am. Crews will be on site from 7 pm setting up traffic management. The work is being completed at night when traffic volumes are lower, which reduces overall traffic disruption.

Because heavy machinery will be used to mill and repave the road, the highway’s northbound lanes will be closed between the Johnsonville offramp and onramp. The closure will also allow the repairs to be completed faster than if they were done under stop/go traffic management.

Northbound traffic will leave the highway at the Johnsonville offramp, travel through Johnsonville, and rejoin State Highway 1 using the northbound onramp.

Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys, follow all temporary traffic management, observe local road speed limits on the detour, and take care around road crews and equipment.

Nearby residents may hear some machinery noise. Crews will keep noise and disruption as low as possible. 

The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if wet weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur. Drivers should check the latest road conditions before travelling.
