Overnight tree removal on SH29A near Ōropi

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 23 Jun 2026 2:40pm | Bay of Plenty

Urgent tree felling and vegetation clearing will take place overnight on State Highway 29A (SH29A) near the Ōropi roundabout this Friday (26 June), between 8pm and 5am.

To keep road users and crews safe, the SH29A westbound lane towards Barkes Corner will be closed between 8pm and 5am. A detour will be available via Ōropi Road, Maleme Street and Cameron Road.

Once the trees have been felled, there will be short periods of stop/stop traffic management while the trees are dragged across the road to be chipped the following day. Because chipping large trees can be noisy, this work will take place during the day on Thursday, between 10.30am and 2.30pm, on the opposite side of the road. A short lane closure will be in place while this work is underway.

Traffic management, including a reduced speed limit, will be in place for the duration of the work.

People travelling on SH29A on Thursday night are asked to take extra care and follow the directions of traffic management.
