Road users are encouraged to plan for delays early next week as important road surface repairs are undertaken at Otikerama Overbridge on State Highway 1/Waipahi Highway/Presidential Highway in Southland.
Vehicles are due be held for up to 20 minutes in both directions between 7am and 5pm on Monday 24 August. This will allow road crews to complete the asphalt repairs on the bridge east of Gore, between the settlements of McNab and Pukerau.
There is no suitable detour in the immediate vicinity, but people should consider using State Highway 93 as an alternative route connecting to SH1. If issues such as weather force a postponement, the work may instead take place on Tuesday 25 August.
This week, drainage work is happening on this same SH1 route, from Gore to Pukerau, with traffic required to stop on demand. Delays of up to 9 minutes can be expected during daytime hours because of this work and stop/go traffic management, which is due to conclude at 6.30pm on Friday 21 August.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi thanks people in advance for their patience and understanding as this work is completed to keep the road in good order.
