State Highway 6 between Makarora and Hāwea is now fully open, with the weekday escorted convoys coming to an end.
The convoys operating between Camp Creek and Wharf Creek are no longer needed following great progress by crews this week.
The highway will be fully open over Labour Weekend, although a temporary 50km/h speed limit will remain in place at Waterfall Slip and stop/go traffic management controlled by temporary traffic lights at Windy Point.
The current forecast indicates heavy rain in the area on Monday. Crews will have equipment on standby and will be ready to respond if needed.
While restrictions will be removed in time for Labour Weekend, motorists should expect temporary traffic management at various locations along this section of highway as crews continue to carry out recovery operations.
A wet and gusty weekend ahead for many parts of the South Island means road users may want to carefully consider their travel on state highways, and extra care may be needed in places.
