NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is urging drivers to be prepared for overnight road closures next week as resurfacing work continues on SH1 Ngauranga Gorge. These works are weather-dependent and schedules may change. Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before they travel.

On Monday 19 January, 10pm-4.30am, SH1 will be CLOSED to southbound traffic from Johnsonville off-ramp to Ngauranga Interchange. This is for essential road resurfacing works. 

Light vehicles heading south can detour via Moorfield Road in Johnsonville and follow the signposted detour to rejoin SH1. They can then travel north to join SH2 or southbound to rejoin SH1 via Aotea Quay roundabout.

Heavy vehicles on SH1 need to take SH58 then SH2 to rejoin SH1 at the Ngauranga Interchange.

Travellers wanting to access Newlands will need to exit SH1 at Johnsonville and travel along Helston Road and Stewart Drive.
