Paremata’s highway roundabout is in line for some care and attention from road workers next week.

The roundabout, that links State Highway 59 to State Highway 58 is scheduled to be resurfaced next Tuesday and Wednesday nights (18 and 19 November), between 9 pm and 4 am. 

With over 30 thousand vehicles using the roundabout every day, it is critical this well-used piece of highway infrastructure is regularly maintained. Resurfacing it means the road’s grip is improved, making it safer for drivers.

The work has been deliberately timed to happen at night when traffic volumes are lower, so fewer drivers are affected.

Because of the work required and the heavy equipment being used, access to the roundabout will be restricted while the resurfacing is completed. 

Access will be retained for northbound drivers, but southbound traffic will have to use detour routes. These will create short delays and drivers must factor this into their travel plans. 

For southbound traffic heading towards Paremata, a detour will be available via Paremata Road, Postgate Drive, Omapere St, Warspite Ave and Whitford Brown Ave, before rejoining State Highway 59

For northbound traffic wanting to exit State Highway 59 from Paremata roundabout, they must continue north and turn around at the Plimmerton roundabout to head back south on State Highway 59 and exit via Paremata Road.

Works schedule and detours:

• Tuesday, 18 November and Wednesday, 19 November. 9 pm – 4 am (traffic management will set up from 7 pm)
• SH59 Paremata roundabout CLOSED to southbound traffic. It will remain OPEN to northbound traffic.
• Detours:
  • Southbound traffic on SH59 must detour via Paremata Road, Postgate Drive, Omapere St, Warspite Ave and Whitford Brown Ave, before rejoining SH59
  • Southbound traffic joining SH59 from SH58 will need to detour south via Paremata Crescent and Papakowhai Road to join SH59 from Whitford Brown Ave.
  • Northbound traffic needing to access SH58 from Paremata roundabout will need to continue north and turn around at the Plimmerton roundabout to head back south on SH59 and exit via Paremata Road.
