NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 23 Jun 2025 3:51pm | Wellington

Update 23 June:

The timing of these works has been rescheduled.

They will now happen on Tuesday and Wednesday nights (24 and 25 June) this week, not Sunday and Monday nights (22 and 23 June) as originally planned.

Revised work schedule

  • Tuesday 24 June and Wednesday 25 June. 9pm–4:30am.
  • SH2 and roundabout closed to northbound traffic.
  • Local road detour via Ngaumutawa and Judds Roads

17 June:

Concrete repairs are planned for the Ngaumutawa roundabout on State Highway 2, south of Masterton, next week.

Work crews will be completing night works on Monday and Tuesday nights (22 and 23 June) between 9pm and 4:30am.

Since it was built in 2022, heavy traffic has damaged the concrete at the roundabout. Road crews will remove the old concrete and replace it with a new flexible and high-strength concrete product. This will help prevent further damage to the road in the future.

The repairs will require a road closure and a local road detour.

Northbound traffic will need to detour via Ngaumutawa and Judds Roads, while southbound traffic can travel as normal.

Southbound vehicles needing to get to Ngaumutawa Road will need to continue south to the Cornwall and Norfolk Roads roundabout, make a U-turn, and travel back towards Ngaumutawa Road.

These detours are suitable for heavy vehicles.

Works schedule:

  • Sunday, 22 June and Monday, 23 June. 9pm – 4:30am.
  • SH2 and roundabout closed to northbound traffic.
  • Local road detour via Ngaumutawa and Judds Roads.
