Section of SH45 in Spotswood to close to northbound traffic for resurfacing
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 3 Mar 2026 1:02pm | Taranaki
A stretch of State Highway 45 in Spotswood will be closed to northbound traffic for one day later this month as crews resurface the road.
The closure will take place on Sunday 22 March, from 7am to 7pm, between Pioneer and Blagdon Roads.
During the closure, all northbound traffic will be detoured. The southbound lane will remain open, with a reduced speed limit in place.
The work involves resurfacing the road with MicroPave, a specialist treatment to improve the road surface and its longevity. MicroPave is a type of surface treatment that is designed to extend the life of roads by providing skid resistance and creating a barrier against moisture.
This treatment needs to be done during the day as it requires warmer, drier conditions to set.
Northbound traffic will be detoured via Pioneer, Breakwater (SH44) and Bayly Roads before returning to SH45 with additional travel times of approximately 5-10 minutes.
This work cannot be completed under contraflow (two-way) traffic controls as two lanes of traffic cannot safely travel around the machinery required for this work, in this section of SH45.
Pedestrian and property access within the site will be maintained, however vehicles will need to access their properties from the northern end of the site.
In the event of unsuitable weather, work will be postponed to the following Sunday 29 March.
