UPDATE: Serious crash closes State Highway 1 near Manakau (SH1 now OPEN)

State Highway 1 has reopened following this morning’s serious crash near Manakau.
While the highway is open, drivers can expect ongoing delays until queued traffic clears. Northbound queues are currently back to Ōtaki, and southbound queues are back Kimberley Road.
Drivers are asked to be patient and drive with care through the area.
12:35 pm:
Lower North Island drivers can expect the closure of State Highway 1 near Manakau to remain in place for several more hours this afternoon.
The highway is closed between Whakahoro Road and Kuku East Road following a serious crash earlier today.
The crash is being investigated by the Police Serious Crash Unit and the state highway closure is expected to remain in place while its work is ongoing.
Drivers should avoid the area, follow the instructions of emergency services and contractors, and use local road detours and diversions in place.

Drivers travelling on State Highway 1 between Ōtaki and Levin can expect delays following a serious crash on State Highway 1 near Manakau this morning.
The crash was reported just before 10:30 am.
Emergency services are at the scene between Whakahoro Road and Kuku East Road, and closures and diversions are in place.
Drivers must avoid the area, delay their journey, and follow all instructions from emergency services if travelling through the area.
Ongoing travel delays and traffic congestion can be expected until the crash site is cleared. This may take several hours.
