Motorists travelling south from Richmond can expect delays and detours on State Highway 6 overnight.

The highway is closed - following a two-car crash near the intersection of Clover Road earlier this evening.

The crash was reported at around 8:30 pm. Emergency services and contractors are at the scene.

Drivers should avoid the area and use an alternative route. A local road detour is available for southbound traffic via SH60, Moutere Highway, Waimea West Road, and Ellis St (Brightwater). The reverse applies for northbound traffic

There is no estimated time for when the highway will reopen – it is expected to remain closed overnight.

Drivers are urged to check the highway’s status before they travel. Details can be found on the NZTA/Waka Kotahi website.
